Bao Bio FinMed is a topical
treatment for treatment of infected fins.
Infections of fins are normally caused by
mechanical damage resulting in a fin split such
as happens from a netting injury. Also fungal or
bacterial infections can take place in a fish's
fins. The bad news is that a bacterial infection
of fins results in bacterial fin rot, and the
wound is then also opportunistically colonised
by fungi such as Sprolegnia spp.
What Is Bao Bio FinMed....
The product is packaged in kit
form and comprises of two mixtures.
The first is a solution that is
used to bathe the infected area. This results in
localised oxidation of the infection site, thus
cleaning and disinfecting the wound. In other
words, the bacteria and fungi on location are
wiped out.
The second solution is really
clever and it acts as a kind of 'liquid plaster'
for fish. This helps in the rapid healing of the
wound. Treatment using Bao Bio FinMed will
disinfect any lesion or wound and more
importantly stops the growth and spread of
bacteria and/or fungus infections. At the same
time it promotes the repair and re-growth of
tissue. The product is formulated using
high-grade ingredients and has been tested for
many years.
How To Use Bao Bio FinMed....
You can apply the bath solution
by simply dropping it onto the infection. The
coating or 'plaster' application is simply
painted on using the soft brush supplied in the
bottle top.
Any hobbyist can manage this.
First you anaesthetise the fish in a bath or
vat. Put the fish on a moist working surface
such as a towel. At this stage the fish should
not be flapping about too madly. A little
movement is normal, but too much movement means
you may need to anaesthetise for a little while
longer.
Dry the infected area using an
absorbent paper such as kitchen towels. You can
cut away any damaged fin ends if you like - the
tips of fins do grow back - and for the
squeamish this process is not painful to your
fish. It is certainly a lot better than the fish
dying, which can often happen as the result of a
simple fin infection (after secondary infections
take over and the poor fish is overwhelmed by
bacteria)
Use solution 1 generously on the
infection site thereby ensuring that the entire
wound has been disinfected.
After 1 minute, apply solution 2
- don't worry - your fish can survive quite some
time out of water! Allow solution 2 to DRY!!
This is critical - blow on it to speed up the
process if necessary. Once the wound is dry to
the touch, the fish can be returned to water.
You should notice the healing process visibly
within 5 days in normal warm water - it can take
a little longer when the water is colder. Repeat
the process every 7 days until the fin has been
completely repaired.
Badly split
fins may require stitching of the fin rays to
speed the healing process. Or you can use a
small touch of superglue (yes! really). When
using Super Glue though, be careful not to
overdo it. The find should be well connected-
but don't coat it completely with glue and make
a big mess...Do NOT use staples!
BaoBio FinMed
2 can be used to coat the line of the stitch or
glue.
